Prospectus

The topic to my project is how to eat healthier. Lately people just eat whatever they crave without watching how much fat and calories it contains. This is where obesity also comes from. The main thing I want to concentrate on is finding foods that taste as good but have fewer calories. I pick this as my topic because I myself have to eat healthy for many reasons. (Not just to look good) lol. I feel that the way people eat is no one’s fault but their own.
The questions I want to be able to answer are like I said before finding food with less calories as well as being healthy. What can you do to control yourself? What kind of exercises can be done? I would also like to find out how many people have problem with obesity? Another thing is find out what brand isn’t healthy either ?
To help me with my research I will be using the internet. I will also be using different books on healthy eating. On thing I know I can use are the articles Professor Alexander gave us.lol.  as well as the books we read in our classes Fast Food Nation  and The Ethics of Food.

How Healthy Are You? & How Can You Control It?

One thing I have noticed that I’ve caught myself doing or someone else doing is looking at the labels of food before buying it. As well as when at a restaurant looking at how much calories a dish contains before eating it. Most People are concerned about how much calories they eat due to health problems or they just want to lost weight. Another thing is to avoid gaining weight over time, you should aim to burn up as many calories through basic metabolic function and physical activity as you take in. To know whether you're on track, you need to be able to estimate how many calories you need based on your age, gender and level of physical activity. Different age range need fewer calories than others like adults need fewer calories at older ages. For example, an active 31-year-old man needs about 3,000 daily calories, but an active 50-year-old man needs only about 2,800 calories.
For my project and my weekly writing I want to be able to learn peoples different ways of eating as well as how I can avoid eating un healthy foods. What can I eat instead that would taste just as good. Compare same items but different brands. And whether we want to believe it or not we need to eat healthy because Healthy food nourishes your body with essential nutrients, namely, vitamins, minerals, trace minerals, protein, carbohydrates, fats and enzymes. These nutrients are necessary for life. Without them, your body does not receive the proper fuel it needs to function optimally and you will develop health problems. It may be something minor at first, like headaches, allergies, skin problems or mild fatigue. Eventually, it will lead to major illness, like diabetes, cancer or heart disease. When you start eating healthy food, it is helpful to think of it as an adventure in healthy eating. This way it will be much easier to develop healthy eating habits that last a lifetime, rather than just going on another diet.

Lifes Decisions

I would have to say that the problem I can relate to is when students are to busy with work that they forget about school and how to enjoy there teen years. "As more and more kids work to get their own wheels, fewer participate in after-school sports and activities. They stay at their jobs late into the night, neglect their homework,  and come to school exhausted." The reason I feel that I can relate to this quote is because of the fact that I am a full time student as well as working. I've noticed that after I started college and working I'm not able to participate in any activity that I'm interested in. Another thing is that once I do come home late from work I have to stay up all night doing homework, go to bed late and not want to wake up the next morning to do it all over again. In this chapter the solution McDonald had was if u didn't like it u can leave so people had to make a choice. Honestly my solution would be making a schedule and trying to balance out everything do school work in between time as well as at work just doing part time or take days off to be able to have a social life. I can't lie it is hard to do but hopefully sooner or later I can get the hang of it

What To Eat??? #2

As I’m going down the escalators going towards the food court I’m trying to think of what I want to eat.  When  I get off I walk forward and stand in the middle looking around as I feel the rush from the people coming and leaving the food court, the smells of different food whether its fired, steamed, or sweet. I start to walk around look at what’s left but it doesn’t call my attention so I decide to look at the detailed and colorful menus. So I’ve seemed to narrow it down to two options seafood or tacos bell.
As I look at my watch I see I only have 20 minutes left I walk towards the seafood stand. As I approach the register the cashier tells me “before you order I just want to let you know there are no more shrimp” which made me very disappointed.I turned around and started walking toward taco bell, when I see this long line and only 10 minutes  left  of my break. Just the thought of not being able to taste either one of my favorite meals really had me in a bad mood for the rest of my day.  Time just wasn’t enough so I went back upstairs and bought a soda from the vending machine in the break room. I wipe the top of the can, open the top, i can hear the fizz of the soda, i take a nice sip, i can feel the bubbles tickling my nostrils ….. ahhh refreshing. But it never fails to take a walk to the food court and come back with nothing.

What to Eat???

Be back in half an hour (said my manager).  As I’m going down the escalators going towards the food court I’m trying to think of what I want to eat.  When  I get off I walk forward and stand in the middle looking around as I feel the rush from the people coming and leaving the food court, the smells of different food whether its fired, steamed, or sweet.  As I look at my watch I see I only have 20 minutes left I walk towards the seafood stand. As I approach the register the cashier tells me “before you order I just want to let u know there are no more shrimps” which made me very disappointed. I told her thank you for your assistance but I won’t be ordering here. I turned around and started walking toward taco bell, when I see this long line and only 10 minutes  left  of my break. Time just wasn’t enough so I went back upstairs and bought a soda from the vending machine in the break room. I wipe the top of the can, open the top, take a nice sip ….. ahhh refreshing. Food Ethics with Yoleine Pichardo

Hello my name is Yoleine Pichardo. Welcome to my blog. I am a 19 year old dominican girl living in Brooklyn, NY. I am attending LaGuardia Community College. For this semester I will be taking a course on how to learn how to write a research paper with my professor, Alexander.
As our first top on food habits, I would like to tell you a little bit about my eating habits. The good thing about living in my house is that its just me and my mother, so I don't mind cooking because it's only a small amount. I actually enjoy cooking, whether it's breakfast, lunch, dinner or desert. I love to invent. I mostly get my ingredients from supermarkets such as Associated, Keyfood or Food Bazar. Vegetables and fruits are usually bought by my mother at little stands around my neighborhood since they tend to be fresher.
I love to eat almost everything. I'm open minded to trying new things as long as I have heard about it and/or it doesn't include onions, peppers or mushrooms. One thing that scares me is that after learning some of things that we learned in this class, I feel like I'll be disgusted by the foods that I eat now. I honestly don't have any special or favorite food. The only food that I find special is my mom's food. She takes her time while making it and actually care if I eat it or not.
I feel if I knew where my food came from, I wouldn't be as concerned as to what I eat. I would safe and comfortable and would actually get to enjoy my food because I know exactly where it came from.
